A mentally-Challanged man,who sustained injuries in an accident around eight months ago and used to stay on the roadside, finally got shelter from Guru Amar Das Apahaj Ashram — an NGO.

NGO founder Dr Naurang Singh Mangat said: “An unknown vehicle hit Gulab Lal in the Model Town Extension area. Some bones of his thighs were broken. He was mentally-challenged and kept lying on the roadside all these months. As he was unable to move, his body developed wounds. His legs also got crippled.”

He added: “Though some commuters provided food to Gulab Lal,no one dared to move him to the hospital. I spotted him crying, lying naked in a half-conscious state. I got him admitted in Deep Hospital and am now paying for his treatment.” Gulab Lal hails from Guwahti in Assam. Mangat is a former scientist in PAU. For the last six years,he has been moving around across the city to help the needy, particularly in labour colonies. His NGO,which was registered in 2005,has saved many lives.
