Cong councillors protest, decide not to have chai-paani in Mayor’s office

Six Independent councillors join Congress

Congress councillors once again sat on protest against the SAD-BJP-led Ludhiana Municipal Corporation at Zone A headquarters on Monday.

However, what made the Congress protest different this time was their latest resolution not to have chai-paani in the mayor’s office till their demands were met. Fed up with Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria’s habit of offering Congress men tea and nimbu-paani whenever they go for a meeting which ends in a deadlock, the Congress councillors took this decision.

“Every time we visit mayor’s office,he tries to bury the matter by whiling away the time and offering us tea and lemon water. Enough of this nonsense! Now we have decided not to have a sip of water in his office till the time house meeting is not called and councillors are not given grants for development in their areas,” said Congress spokesperson Parminder Mehta.

During the protest, the Congress was joined by six Independent councillors: Jasvir Singh,Gurdip Khurana,Ajay Nayyar,Krishna Kharbanda,Ashok Kumar and Hansraj. “Today six joined, tomorrow others will join because everybody is fed up with this mute mayor who has not called even a single house meeting to discuss problems of city since elections last year,” added Mehta.

The Congress protested against the new builders’ policy and demanded reduction of fee to be taken from builders and plot

owners to regularise the illegal colonies. Its another demand related to calling of a house meeting due to which funds for various works are struck.
