Speeding train kills woman,injures 2 kids

LUDHIANA: A 29-year-old unidentified woman along with her two children was crushed to death by a speeding train on Dhandari railway tracks on Tuesday. She was crossing the tracks when the train hit her and she died on the spot. However,both girls,aged 3 and 4,were seriously injured and were admitted to Civil Hospital. “We have still not been able to identify the woman. Children are also not giving any information,” said Jaswant Singh from railway police station,Dhandari.

5 GNGC students bag varsity ranks

LUDHIANA: Five students of MSc (Physics) second semester of Guru Nanak Girls College (GNGC),Model Town,secured top ranks in the May 2013 examination of the Panjab University,as per results declared on Tuesday. Jasleen Kaur stood second in the university by securing 80% marks. Supriya Rani bagged third position in the varsity by securing 77.6% marks. Neha Rani got fifth position by securing 76.3% marks. Nisha and Gurpreet Kaur bagged sixth and eighth positions by getting 75.9% and 74.5% marks respectively.

CIPHET series for farmers from Sept 15

LUDHIANA: The Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET) is going to start a new series of ‘Do Dooni Chaar’,an agricultural information-based radio programme on All India Radio,Jalandhar,every Sunday at 7 pm from September 15. Dr Indu Karki,a scientist working on the project,said that they would be broadcasting 13 series of programme every Sunday which would inform the audience about different processing technologies developed by the institute.

Drug abuse campaign ends at Sacred Heart

LUDHIANA: Understanding the need to sensitise the students to harmful effects of drugs,a one-week awareness campaign on drug abuse concluded at Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School,B R S Nagar,on Tuesday. Child counsellor Shamina Deol enlightened students about the harmful effects of drugs. During the programme,a documentary on the drug abuse among the youth in Punjab was also shown.
