National Youth Day celebrated

The Directorate of Youth Services,Punjab,organised a state-level function to commemorate the National Youth Day at the Government College for Women on Thursday. Nine NSS volunteers who participated in the Republic Day parade in Delhi were honoured,along with 96 youngsters who participated in the National Youth Festival held at Udaipur in Rajasthan. Nearly 200 youngsters donated blood on the occasion. Heera Singh Gabria,Minister for Jails and Cultural Affairs,was the chief guest.

Farmer fairs to focus on farm innovations

Punjab Agricultural University will hold six kisan melas in March. Dr M S Gill ,Director of Extension Education,said the fairs would begin at Rauni (Patiala) on March 8 and conclude at Gurdaspur on March 22. The other fairs will be held at Faridkot (March 10),Ballowal Saunkhri (March 11),Bathinda (March 14) and the PAU campus in Ludhiana (March 17-18).

Dental check-up camp held

The Lions Club,Ludhiana Greater,organised a free dental check-up camp for the children of Bal Bhawan on Thursday. Dr Jasbir Singh Judge and his team checked the dental health of 100-odd children. Secretary Sanjeev Monga said the club would organise a free eye camp on March 27 at Dr Ramesh Mansura Eye Hospital in Shazadi village.

PAU Science Club holds seminar

The Science Club of the Punjab Agricultural University held a seminar,‘Opportunities for higher education in the United States and the visa process’,to educate students about the visa application process. Dr Gursharan Singh,Dean,Postgraduate Studies,said the increasing cases of fraud in the visa process had prompted the university to take this initiative to create awareness among its students. Naomi Matos,Vice-Councillor in the US Embassy,presented a paper.
