Paper by PAU scientist declared ‘best’ at national symposium
The research paper ‘Indigenous technical knowledge and farmers’ participation approach for sustainable agriculture and bio-diversity conservation’ by Dilbag Singh of Department of Vegetable Crops,presented in the national symposium on ‘Innovative and modern technology for agricultural productivity,food security and environmental management’ held at Bangalore,was rated as the best paper. Dr D S Khurana,Head of Department of Vegetable Crops congratulated Singh,who is working on crop improvement in water melon and cucumber for resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses.
Dayanand Medical College welcomes new batch of MBBS students
To welcome the new 2011 batch of MBBS students at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital,an introductory function was organised on Monday at Dumra Auditorium. It was attended by the freshers along with their parents,faculty members and members of the DMCH Managing Society including Vice-President of DMCH Managing Society Amrit Nagpal. Assistant Dean Academics Dr Sandeep Kaushal extended warm welcome to the students and their parents. In his address,Dean Academics Dr Chhina traced the history of the college and its contribution in the academics and quality health care in the region. Among those present on the occasion include Vice-Principal Dr Jagdeep Whig,Chief Cardiologist Dr G S Wander,Medical Superintendents Dr Sandeep Puri,Dr B S Shah,Dr Ashwani Chaudhary,senior administrative officers and other staff members.
Industrialists object to new conditions of Punjab power corporation
A meeting of all industries forum was conducted on Monday in which industrialists expressed their resentment over the recent imposition of 3 days compulsory weekly-off on induction furnaces and rolling mills by Punjab State power corporation limited (PSPCL). In addition to this,PSPCL has stated that during weekly-off days,the industries can purchase upto 50 per cent of power under open access scheme,which had no limits earlier. The industrialists have objected to the new conditions and have asked the authorities to withdraw these orders.
UK delegation visits city
A three-member delegation from council of Leicester,UK visited Ludhiana on Monday to study various projects of Municipal Corporations. They were welcomed by Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura and Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Bansal. The team will be in Ludhiana till August 6 and will be looking at projects like solid waste management,ROBs and RUBs under construction in Ludhiana. Bansal said that after looking into the projects in detail,they will suggest any modifications that may be needed.
Fashion institute begins 11th session
Ivanna Institute of Fashion Technology and Hotel Management started its new academic session on Monday. The eleventh batch at the institute had students enrolled in Fashion Technology,Hotel Management and Interior design degree,at the graduate and post graduate levels. The new batch of students were addressed by faculty members and the Director. They were told the advantages of distant learning,the scope of their choice of subjects,the need of inculcating good communication and soft skills. Students were welcomed in the campus and induction ceremony was held in which they were made familiar with the institute and its working pattern.
PAU extension specialists discuss feedback
To collect feedback from field areas reported by extension specialists of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) working in different Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs),Regional Stations,Farm Advisory Service Scheme (FASS) located in different agro-climactic zones of the state,a meeting was held in the Farmers Service Centre in the Directorate of Extension Education of PAU,on Monday. The Director of Extension Education Dr M S Gill said that the feedback from farmers and extension functionaries brings out the ground reality and serves as a useful purpose for reprioritisation of research and technology development.
