Cancer survivors spread awareness about early detection and treatment

The morning walkers in Rakh Bagh and Rose Garden area on Saturday were in for a surprise when there were more than 300 people to give them company. They had gathered for a walk-a-thon organised by Can Fight Cancer (CFC),a society formed with the objective of spreading awareness against cancer and emphasising the importance of early detection and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu and CMCH director Dr Abraham G Thomas flagged off the walk-a-thon in the presence of Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria. The walk was attended by cancer survivors,their families,families of those unfortunate patients who succumbed to cancer,political leaders,bureaucrats,health care professionals from CMCH,Ludhiana,senior citizens,KVM students/staff and other volunteers.

At Rose Garden,a small quiz and interactive session was organised by Dr Kunal Jain. Anil Sood,a cancer survivor,emphasised the need to carry this fight forward and continue such campaigns on a larger scale.

Cancer survivorship was highlighted by Veena Mittal who fought a victorious battle with the disease almost 20 years back. “Support from family and community is vital for victory,” she said.
