Inaugurated for five times since 2000 with no progress, the project of covering Ganda Nullah near Gurdwara Dukhnivaran Sahib saw the BJP councillor and former minister fighting like cats and dogs to claim credit for another inauguration.

At a recent house meeting of the Municipal Corporation,BJP area councillor Gurdeep Singh Neetu from the BJP had raised the issue of the pending project and asked for Rs 5 crore from Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria.

On Monday,Neetu and former BJP minister Satpal Gosain reached the spot to inaugurate the starting of work but both clashed over the point from which the work should start. While Neetu wanted the project to start from Islam Ganj side near the gurdwara (where the contractor left work midway 14 months back due to non-payment),Gosain wanted the work to start from the temple side.

High drama was witnessed when Ramesh Bangar,an acquaintance of Gosain, reached the spot with some other followers and started raising slogans “Gosain zindabad,Neetu murdabad”. Some abuses were also exchanged between Neetu and Bangar.

Among those who reached the spot were Congress councillors Sanjay Talwar,Rakesh Prashar and MC Commissioner Rahul Tewari.

“People ask us where has your deputy CM gone now? It is we who have to face the people, not deputy CM,” Neetu had said during the house meet of the Ludhiana MC.

When contacted,Neetu said,“I raised the issue in the house meet and got the contractor first instalment of Rs 1.60 crore after which work started. Had Gosain been so keen, why he failed to get funds from the state government? Now he is claiming right over the funds I got as a councillor from the Ludhiana MC. But still I told him that he is our senior and the issue should be solved amicably but his followers degraded him by creating this whole drama.”

However,Gosain claimed that Bangar had nothing to do with the project. “I have no issues with Neetu. I was just voicing what people from the area wanted. People should mind their behaviour and respect senior leaders. I am not claiming any credit,” he told Newsline.
