The villagers claimed that even when the staff is working, condition is no different as dirty and stinking water enters their homes.The Bhattian Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) overflew again late on Monday, and the situation worsened on Tuesday as water entered even the jungles of Tiger Safari.
Not only the tigers were kept in enclosures, but the people from nearby village Bhattian were also a harried lot as water entered their homes. On Tuesday, the villagers protested against the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation for poor maintenance of the STP.
Reportedly, the staff at the plant stopped work due to pending dues and motors were not operated. But the villagers claimed that even when the staff is working, condition is no different as dirty and stinking water enters their homes.

The residents of Govind Enclave near the zoo area said that the dirty water accumulated outside their houses as the STP generally overflows due to improper functioning of the plant.
Veer Das, sarpanch of Bhattian village, said that villagers would continue the protest against the MC till the issue was resolved.
MC zonal commissioner Kamlesh Bansal, however, said, “Staff had some issues but now the plant has started working again and overflowing will be controlled soon.”
Vinod Malhotra, a staff member at ticket counter of Tiger Safari, said it was for the first time that the sewerage water had entered the Tiger Safari area. The visitors returned due to the mess, he added.
