Over 50 trains cancelled due to Rail Roko Aandolan
Passengers all across the Northern region were harassed today after the cancellation of more than 50 trains due to a Rail Roko Aandolan called by members of Balmiki Sabha seeking more reservation in jobs.
The main trunk route between Amritsar and New Delhi, however, was not affected. Till the time of filing this report, the sit-in protest was on in four different sections of the Malwa region. Ferozepur-Ludhiana,Ferozepur-Bathinda,Fazilka- Kotkapura and Amritsar- Pathankot lines were affected the most. Although Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has agreed to meet the community leaders on February 18,the Sabha has not lifted the blockade.
In Ferozepur, the tracks were obstructed near Dagru village while in Giani Zail Singh Yard of Bathinda, protesters are still sitting on rail tracks. Another protest is going on in Muktsar near Lakhiwala while in Batala, trains on the Amritsar- Pathankot route were stopped.
As a result of the disruption, passengers were left stranded in railway stations. Divisional Railway Manager Vishvesh Dubey said,As the dharna has not been lifted,we cannot promise restoration of traffic on these routes even tomorrow.
