Seven-year old Mohit Kumar had never gone to school because of his congenital heart disease. His father is a factory worker in Tarn Taran and could not afford costly treatment for his son.
However,Rotary Club and voluntary donors came forward to give a new lease of life to Mohit, and on Thursday he was discharged from CMC in a hale and hearty condition. The total expenses incurred on his treatment were Rs 1.5 lakh against the normal cost of operation of Rs 2.5 lakh.
Dr H S Bedi, chief cardiac surgeon at CMCH,said,Rotary Club donated Rs 30,000 while the rest was contributed by NGOs of Amritsar. Even the factory owner of Mohits father helped. We gave a discount of about Rs 1 lakh to the patient. His open heart surgery was done. It was a corrective surgery. Now the patient just needs folic acid for about a week and nothing else later. He can lead a normal life.
Dr Rajanbir Singh Thind, president of Rotary Club,Ludhiana Midtown, said,We donated about Rs 30,000 after we were approached by Dr Bedi. We will be contributing more to other needy patients as well in future.
