36-yr-old jumps to death from fourth floor of Apollo Hospital

A 36-YEAR-OLD man jumped off the fourth floor of SPS Apollo Hospital and committed suicide on Sunday morning

A 36-year-old man jumped off the fourth floor of SPS Apollo Hospital and committed suicide on Sunday morning.

Before taking this step,he reportedly had a fight with his wife,who tried to stop him when he broke off the window of the room from where he jumped.

Identified as Jagtar Singh,a resident of Mandi Gobindgarh,he was in hospital with his wife to look after his father- in-law who was undergoing treatment after heart attack. Jagtar himself had been suffering from depression for quite some time.

A businessman,he also thrashed his wife before jumping off,as per eyewitnesses.

ASI Pavittar Singh,incharge at Sherpur police post,said that he jumped off from the fourth floor around 8.30 am and died on the spot.

His wife Gurmeet Kaur told the police that her husband had been suffering from depression for the past few months. She said he asked her to fetch water and she was shocked to see him breaking the windowpane. When she tried to stop,he thrashed her and jumped off.

The ASI said no case had been registered yet,but the police were investigating the matter.

11-year-old crushed under tractor trolley

An 11-year-old boy from Basant City,Threekey road,was crushed to death by a tractor trolley on Sunday morning.

Tripatjit Singh,who along with his elder brother,was on Activa to get tuition. He was hit by a vehicle from the opposite side on Pakhowal road. Singh,a student of class VI of DAV Public School,BRS Nagar,fell off the Activa and his head was crushed under the tractor.

He died on the way to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. Doctors declared him dead on arrival.

“The elder brother who also studies in our school informed his parents and they immediately rushed to the spot but the child died on the way,” said a police officer.

While the police have impounded the tractor,the driver ran from the spot and is absconding.

“We have registered the case and the driver has been identified as Balbir Singh from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. The police are conducting raids to arrest the accused as soon as possible,” said Amandeep Singh,SHO,Sadar police station.

The principal said that Monday had been declared an off day in school to mourn their student’s untimely demise.
