Three people died in a road accident at National Highway in Khanna on Friday after two motorcyclists were crushed to death by a truck.
The deceased have been identified as Gurnam Singh, 62, and Anil Kumar, 16, of Mandi Gobindgarh and truck driver Sarabjit Singh of Budha Theh village of Kapurthala. Another truck driver injured is Dharamvir Singh of Haryana. Both motorcyclists Anil and Gurnam were neighbours and were going to vegetable market at Khanna.
The truck loaded with iron rods, driven by Sarabjit, was going towards Mandi Gobindgarh from Ludhiana. As it reached near Markfed godowns in Khanna, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The truck mowed down the motorcyclists and hit another truck after hitting the divider.
The motorcycle-borne two people died on the spot. Doctors at Civil Hospital, Khanna, referred Sarabjit Singh to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, where he died later.
Sadar SHO Jagdev Singh said accused Sarabjit died in the accident.
