2 engineering students rob man to bet on IPL matches

Two engineering students,Govind Kumar,19,and Rahul Kumar,20,on Sunday confessed that they had robbed a man on Saturday to bet on IPL matches.

Two engineering students,Govind Kumar,19,and Rahul Kumar,20,on Sunday confessed that they had robbed a man on Saturday to bet on IPL matches. They also confessed that they wanted easy money.

This was revealed during interrogation of the two accused who were arrested by the Focal Point police on Saturday for a daylight robbery.

Both the accused are engineering students at Sidhwan Bet Polytechnic and residents of Gill Colony,Lohara. The police have registered cases under sections 382 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Sub-Inspector Satwinder Singh Gurm from Dhandari police post said,“We are investigating the case in detail and more people involved in this case may be booked after interrogation.”

Both the accused on Saturday had thrashed an employee of a mobile phone service providing company near Dhandhari at National Highway and robbed him. A case was registered following the statement of Saurav Singla,an employee of Airtel. He used to supply SIM cards to shopkeepers and used to collect cash.

According to Singla,a resident of Punjab Housing Board Colony of Jamalpur,he was going towards Dhandhari. As he reached near State Band of India,Dhandhari Branch,two motorcycle-borne youths intercepted him and asked him to hand over the bag to them.

As he refused to hand over the bag,the accused thrashed him and snatched his bag having Rs 10,000 and fled. The police later arrested the accused.
