One person was killed and more than a dozen injured in clashes between SP and BSP workers over the past 24 hours in different districts of Uttar Pradesh.
State police chief Atul,who on Friday was asked by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to take strict measures to control the violence that erupted after the poll results were declared,said he already issued directives to all district police chiefs and senior officials to deal sternly with such incidents. The accused have been arrested in majority of the cases,the DGP said.
Among the fresh incidents of violence,one was reported from Hardoi. An exchange of fire between SP and BSP workers left a youth dead and five critically injured in Sandila area of the district on Saturday.
Hardoi Additional SP Anil Kumar Singh told The Sunday Express that the clash was sequel to a rivalry between pradhan and BSP man Ayub Khan and former pradhan Mohammad Rehan from the SP.
Singh said the trigger was a land dispute in Tikra Barar village between one Sarfaraj alias Munna and Raees Ahmad. While Ayub Khan joined Munna along with his associates,Rehan arrived there accompanied by his men to support Raees. The groups clashed and then engaged in firing,in which Munna’s son Pappu (25) was killed.
Rehan and two of his associates have been arrested.
Abdul Mannan,the former BSP minister who lost to SP candidate Kunwar Mahavir Singh from Sandila constituency,alleged that those who sustained gunshot injuries are BSP supporters and were attacked by the SP workers.
In a separate incident,SP supported Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya’s supporters allegedly assaulted the driver of local Zila Panchayat member Archana Tiwari at Nariyawan village in Pratapgarh.
Pratapgarh SP Deepak Kumar said Archana Tiwari is wife of historysheeter Manoj Tiwari,who had an old enmity with Pradip Shukla,a supporter of Raja Bhaiya.
In Ballia,BSP and SP supporters clashed at Bhuj Chhapra village in Rewati police station area. Five persons were injured in the clash. Ballia SP Ram Bharose said the clash was a sequel to an incident between the two groups.
In Auraiya district,four people were injured in a clash between two groups at Jhabra village.
