Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav at the latter’s residence in Lucknow Wednesday. While Mulayam’s brother and SP rebel Shivpal Yadav was present during the meeting, party chief Akhilesh Yadav was conspicuous by his absence. According to sources, Akhilesh was in Lucknow at the time of the meeting, which took place around noon.
The CM’s media adviser Mrityunjay Kumar told The Indian Express that the meeting lasted around 20 minutes and Mulayam’s health was discussed. “The discussion revolved around his health. Diwali celebrations were also discussed with the SP patron. The CM also lauded the work done by him (Mulayam) when he was chief minister,” said Kumar.
Asked if Shivpal was invited by the CM, Kumar said, “The CM office had informed Mulayamji’s residence an hour in advance that the CM would like to meet him. Mulayamji must have informed him (Shivpal).”
Kumar said the meeting was “cordial” and that the SP patron insisted that he would walk with the CM till the main gate of the residence. “Although the CM urged Mulayamji to not walk with him, he still did so,” said Kumar.
Earlier this year, in June, Adityanath had met Mulayam at his Lucknow residence a day after he was discharged from a Gurgaon hospital. Akhilesh and Shivpal were both present during the meeting.
Later in the day, Adityanath also visited former UP chief minister and former governor of Rajasthan, Kalyan Singh. Singh’s son, Rajveer Singh, a second-term BJP MP from Etah, was also present during the meet.
“After the meeting with the SP patron, the CM met Kalyanji and his son for around 30 minutes,” said Mrityunjay Kumar. Kalyan Singh had taken membership of the BJP again on September 9 after his tenure as Governor of Rajasthan ended on September 3.
