As the biggest ever police recruitment process is about to conclude with the written examination on March 28,data of the candidates appearing in the final stage show a significant number of women aspirants.

Success rate of the girl candidates is about 80 per cent, said the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment & Promotion Board. The Board is conducting the recruitment to select 35,000 personnel at 406 centres across the state, using new techniques to ensure the transparency.

The percentage is based on the number of girls who have cleared three stages of the selection — Physical Standard Test (PST),Physical Endurance Test (PET) and the Medical Test — before reaching the final stage.

Member secretary of the Board Inspector General (IG) Kamal Saksena said 2,25,737 candidates are to take the written exam and the figure includes 28,048 women. As per government rules,20 per cent seats are reserved for women and 7,000 of the women are bound to be selected among 35,000 recruits. But the statistics indicate that women are going to snatch more seats, the IG said.

The Board had received 91,500 applications from women,of which 12,000 were rejected. Admit cards were issued to 79,611 candidates and 53,000 had appeared for the PST which included physical measurement. Thereafter,37,000 women were cleared for the exam, which included running 5 kilometres in 35 minutes.

About 32,784 women were successful and after the medical test,28,048 were cleared for the written exams.

The success rate of men is too considerable,he said,as over 3.2 lakh of them had taken the three stages of PST,PET and the medical test and 1,97,689 are going to take the written exams.

The IG said they have 406 centres across 18 districts and the Allahabad and Lucknow centres have the maximum number of examinees — 27,966 and 23,030 respectively.

The 200-mark paper includes objective questions on maths, logic, aptitude and general knowledge. The candidates will have to mark answers on three copies of the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheets. While one sheet will be sealed and sent to the Board, the second will be scanned for results and the candidates will be allowed to take the third copy with them.

The answers will be made available on the Board website within four hours of the exam.

The scanning of the OMRs will be done at one go at the same centre where the exams are held with close-circuit TV cameras installed in the room. Marks obtained by each candidate will be displayed at each centre by the next morning. Saksena said they plan to declare the merit list by April 2.
