A 25-YEAR-OLD woman was murdered allegedly by two men in a Bahraich village in the early hours of Sunday. While an FIR for murder was registered, the woman’s family members told police that they suspect she had been sexually assaulted.
“The woman got married around 5-6 years ago to a man who now works outside the state. Some local residents claimed to us that she was still in a relationship with another youth in the village. A few months ago, her husband got to know about this and allegedly broke a mobile phone she had during an argument.
However, she arranged for another phone. In their complaint, her family alleged that two youths came to meet her on Saturday late night and she stepped out of her residence. On Sunday morning, her body was found around 500 metres from the house,” said Bahraich SP (Rural) Ravindra Kumar Singh.
“Prima-facie, we did not find any evidence suggesting sexual assault. Part of the sari she was wearing was wrapped around her neck and the rest of her clothes were intact. As there was a delay, postmortem was conducted only on Monday. There is a river near the spot the body was found. It is also possible that she was suffocated to death in the water and the body dumped nearby later,” he added.
