A 17-year old girl was forced to abort her child and later thrown into a canal in Firozabad by her mother, maternal uncle and aunt Thursday night.  The girl was found in an unconscious state Friday morning in Mainpuri where villagers rescued her and informed the police.

An FIR was lodged on the girl’s complaint against her mother and others. Her mother was arrested Saturday. According to Mainpuri police, Raju, of Nagla Sanehi village in Aunchha police station area informed the police Friday about an unidentified girl found lying unconscious near Kanpur-branch of lower Ganga canal near his village.

Police admitted the girl to a district hospital from where she was shifted to Saifai Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Etawah.

After gaining consciousness the girl, from Makrao village in Jasrana police station area of Firozabad, told the police she became pregnant four months ago following a relationship with a friend.  After her mother found out about her pregnancy, she forced her to abort the child.   The girl further said that her mother, maternal uncle Karu from Shikohabad and her sister in-law Abhilakha from Jasrana Thursday evening took her to a local doctor for abortion.

While returning from the doctor’s place, they tied the girl and threw her into the canal.  Police said when knots got loose, the girl swam to an enbankment of the canal in Mainpuri’s Aunchha area and fell unconscious.  “It appears to be a case of an attempt to honour killing. The girl’s condition is stable and is admitted to Saifai PGI. An FIR has been registered against three persons and her mother has been arrested while police has been sent to Firozabad to arrest other two accused,” said Srikant Singh, Superintendent of Police, Mainpuri.
