The wife of the regional head of alcoholic beverages distiller,Seagram Company Limited,allegedly committed suicide by consuming insecticide at their house in Lucknows Vibhuti Khand area on Saturday morning. The police said the womans father has alleged involvement of the husband in her death.
Vibhuti Khand station officer Sudhir Kumar said the police were in the process of lodging an FIR against Manoj Rai who is the head of Seagrams Uttar Pradesh,Uttarakhand and Nepal regions,and they were waiting for the complaint from his wife Niveditas father,Siddhant Rai. Kumar said Rai has alleged that his daughter was killed after her husband harassed her,but the police is yet to receive a written complaint.
Nivedita (36) died in the morning. Vidya Sagar Mishra,Circle Officer (Gomti Nagar),said Rai stayed at his rented flat in Omaxe Height building of Vibhuti Khand with his wife and father Markandey. On Saturday morning,Nivedita told her husband that she had consumed poison. Her husband carried her to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where she died, Mishra said.
Police said prima facie it has been found that Nivedita consumed insecticide kept in the house. However,they were waiting to conduct the postmortem of the body as it was kept on hold till her father reached here. The station officer said Niveditas father,who is an ex-legislator from Bihar,had asked them not to do so till he arrived.
The couple have a 7-year-old son who lives in Varanasi with Rais mother.
