Punjabi Tadka

Even though Farhan Akhtar is tied down with the post-production of his next directorial venture Don 2,he has started preparing for his next film as an actor,Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. For his first movie outside of his own production house,Excel Entertainment,Akhtar is taking special lessons in Punjabi from Bollywood’s favourite lyricist,Gulzar. In the film,a biopic of the legendary athlete by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the director-turned-actor plays the protagonist. A Punjabi,Milkha Singh had a strong local accent, which Akhtar wants to reproduce on screen. Gulzar happens to be from the region and is helping Akhtar perfect his lines.

Back after a Break

CLOSE on the heels of her contemporaries, such as Karisma Kapoor,Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit, making their comeback,Raveena Tandon too has signed a film, titled Gin Liya Aasman. She was last seen in Bbuddah…Hoga Tera Baap, which had Amitabh Bachchan play the lead.

However, her part was mostly limited to an item number. Gin Liya Aasman, directed by Rishi Deshpande and produced by

Mudassar Aziz,is a story of a six-year-old boy whose father,a naval officer, has been missing following a plane crash. He thus believes that his father lives in the sky. Tandon will be playing the boy’s mother in a performance-oriented role.

Genelia Beats Katrina

WHILE Katrina Kaif has been a constant winner at all possible internet polls in the last few years, for the first time,Genelia D’Souza seems to have beaten her. We are talking about a poll which was conducted to choose the most compatible actress opposite Abhay Deol in his upcoming,Rock The Shaadi. Perhaps, for the first time in Hindi films, consumer research across eight major cities in India was used as a tool to decide on a film’s cast.

Abhay’s pair with Genelia was ranked high on likeability and youth appeal, closely followed by Katrina. Since most of the respondents belonged to the age group of 15-25,Genelia seems to be ahead in youth appeal.

For Old Times’ Sake

After a rather unsuccessful outing with SAB TV’s Sonu Sweety,Shweta Kwatra and Varun Badola will be sharing screen space again. They will feature in SAB TV’s weekly series of light-hearted telefilms, titled Gaadi Bula Rahi Hai,being produced by UTV. Though Kwatra and Badola will play the lead, the telefilm will also bring together several veteran actors, including Rakesh Bedi,Ameeta Nangia,Ranjit and Rajesh Puri. One hopes that the content will do justice to these names.
