For the first time since the excavation at Unnao’s Daundiya Kheda began on October 18,representatives of villagers were Saturday allowed to visit the site by the administration.
“We have granted permission because the people were demanding that they be allowed to visit the excavation site. Four people were granted permission and they visited the excavation site today,” said Vijay Shankar Dubey,SDM,Bighapur,Unnao.
“Three of us,including Ram Karn Singh,Munna Singh of Buxar and me went to the excavation site today. I visited the site in the morning,afternoon and also in the evening,” said Ajay Pal Singh,ex-pradhan and husband of the present Pradhan of Daundiya Kheda,Sheela. Singh was amongst the four to be granted permission by the administration to visit the site.
Meanwhile,local seer Shobhan Sarkar shot off letters to PM Manmohan Singh and CM Akhilesh Yadav seeking transparency in the ongoing excavation. Sarkar sent the letters on Friday,demanding amendment to the Indian Treasure Trove Act so that the recovered gold could be handed over to the RBI. He also sought complete transparency in the ongoing excavation and asked the government to allow common people to the site and live media coverage of the excavation.
However,the archaeologists continued with their digging. The second pit,2.10m x 4.25m,which the team began digging Friday,was also dug up to 30 cm more,said Dubey,taking its depth to 60 cm. “Nothing of significance was found in today’s excavation,” he added.
