Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sadhvi Dr Prachi was arrested at Najibabad while on her way to Kanth in Moradabad to offer ‘Jal-abhishek’ at a temple that is at the centre of a row after a a loudspeaker was removed from there last month.
Sadhvi blamed senior minister Azam Khan for her arrest. She was, however, released soon.
“This is Hindustan and not Pakistan. No one can survive by hurting the sentiments of Hindus. I have been arrested at the behest of Azam Khan. I was going only for jal-abhishek at the temple in Kanth village, which is my right,” Sadhvi Dr Prachi told The Indian Express after she was arrested. “Mine was a peaceful programme but the administration did not allow it,” she added.
In the morning, Sadhvi Dr Prachi who heads Sadhvi Shakti Parishad, a wing of VHP, started from Hardwar for Akbarpur Chaderi village in Kanth. She was stopped at Najibabad by Bijnore police. “We informed her about the restriction on her movement to Moradabad. She accepted and returned. There was no protest by her supporters,” Bhupendra S Choudhary, District Magistrate, Bijnore, said.
Ample security arrangements were made in Kanth following Sadhvi Dr Prachi’s call for jal abhishek at the temple. The village was manned by SSB personnel and nearly 23 CCTVs cameras were installed there.
Sadhvi Dr Prachi had unsuccessfully contested the 2012 assembly elections from Purqazi (reserved) assembly seat in Muzaffarnagar.
