Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Friday announced the candidature of Ajai Pratap Singh, son former prime minister V P Singh, from Fatehpur and appealed to the UPA partners not to field candidates against him.

“Be it Mulayam or Lalu — everybody is a product of the great leader’s historic efforts. I appeal to all the UPA partners to show respect to V P Singh and leave one seat,” Paswan declared after inducting Ajai Pratap Singh into his party. The announcement came after Jan Morcha, floated by V P Singh, merged with the LJP.

Asked whether he had held talks with the Samajwadi Party and the Congress leaders on Singh’s candidature,Paswan said that he has had two rounds of talks with SP general secretary Amar Singh on the issue of unity among the UPA partners in Uttar Pradesh. “Now,I will formally stake claim for Fatehpur seat,” he said.

Singh said he had decided to enter the electoral fray to realise his father’s dreams and to continue his fight for the rights of farmers, youth and Muslims. He also said his father wanted to make Paswan the president of the erstwhile Janata Dal. Paswan had placed the demand for building a memorial for V P Singh at Rajghat in the Cabinet recently.
