Police arrested a man on Saturday in the case of a 12-day-old murder-robbery, in which two bike-borne assailants shot dead a gas agency cashier in Lucknow and made away with Rs 10 lakh in cash. Police said the accused has been identified as Satvir, a man in his thirties who allegedly committed the crime along with three other absconding accused hailing from Rajasthan — Sundar, Sonu Singh and Anoop alias Annu.
“Satvir said he was in Alwar, Rajasthan when his neighbour Sundar told him about this robbery to be executed in Lucknow. On October 13, he came to Haridwar from Alwar and the next day (he went) to Lucknow along with a 9-year-old boy to avoid suspicion. He stayed in PGI police station area, conducted a recce of the place in Lucknow and then went to stay in Ayodhya. On October 29, he and Anoop rode a bike and Sundar and Sonu were on another… Sundar then gave Satvir a loaded gun and asked him to snatch the bag from the cashier and shoot him if he resists,” said Lucknow Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kalanidhi Naithani.
“On the day, Satvir and Anoop reached the spot. Sundar, who was standing at some distance, signalled Satvir that the cashier is going to the bank. Satvir then went near the cashier, snatched his bag and shot him. Satvir and Anoop fled from the spot. They met Sundar and Sonu at another place on the way, gave him the bag and changed their clothes. On the same day, he took the (nine-year-old) kid from the hotel and left for Alwar. In Alwar, they distributed the money in which Satvir got his cut of Rs 2 lakh,” he added.
The SSP said there were 11 different teams working to trace the accused and they recently got inputs that the gang was in Faizabad. A team was sent to Faizabad on Friday, leading to Satvir’s arrest in Faizabad railway station on Saturday, he added.
