A team of district administration and police are conducting searches inside the rooms of hotel. VK Singh, the Chief Fire Officer at Lucknow, said that preliminary probe suggests that the fire first broke out at the hotel’s kitchen on the ground floor of the building and later spread to other parts. “More information will be available after the search operation in completed,” he added.

Senior police officials had rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operation.

According to news agency ANI, the firefighters resorted to breaking window panes and grills to rescue people as the rooms were filled with smoke. The guests were trapped inside their rooms, a police officer said, while adding that the hotel staff, later, brought them out of the building through the windows.

According to the police, an employee spotted the smoke on the second floor of the building at around 7.20 am and alerted the other staff. However, by then, the fire had spread to the third floor of the building as well and the guests were immediately asked to rush out.
