The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has decided to renovate 11 historical buildings, including ancient forts, and develop them into heritage hotels, cultural centres or museums under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode to give a boost to tourism in the state, officials said.
Under the initiative, private players will take the responsibility of designing, developing and handing over the restored sites to the government.

The heritage structures identified for renovation are Talbehat Fort in Lalitpur, Rangarh and Bhuragarh Fort in Banda, Wazirganj Baradari in Gonda, Alambagh Bhawan, Gulistan-e-Eram, and Darshan Vilas in Lucknow, Tikait Rai Baradari in Kanpur, Mastani Mahal and Senapati Mahal in Mahoba, Tahrauli Fort in Jhansi, and Sitaram Mahal/Kotwan Fort in Mathura.
The initiative aims to give a boost to the economy of Bundelkhand through heritage-driven tourism. The government’s heritage revival plan is part of a strategy to balance cultural preservation with modern development.
In recent meetings, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the department to promote eco- and religious tourism, which have placed Uttar Pradesh on the national and global tourism map.
The government claims that the state has witnessed a tourism boom with the development of destinations such as Ayodhya, Kashi and Mathura, and several ancient temples and pilgrimage centres.
In 2024, the state recorded a footfall of 65 crore tourists, the officials said.
