Two police constables allegedly shot dead a youth in Baghpat city late Wednesday night following a quarrel.
Police registered an FIR against constables Jitendra, a resident of Bulandshahr, and Raghuvir, of Badaun, along with three others – Sonu, Monu and Hitesh Arora, all reportedly friends of the constables. The complaint was filed by Riyaz, whose son Fareed (22) died in the shooting, an officer said. Police have arrested Sonu, Monu, Hitesh and constable Jitendra, while Raghuvir is still absconding, the officer added.
According to the complainant, Fareed was first beaten up by the five men on Wednesday evening outside their house and shot at later in the night, when he was on his way to Idgah locality to meet his mother. Fareed had died while he was being taken to the hospital.

Both constables were part of Baghpat district’s SWAT team and were suspended on Thursday following the incident.
Baghpat Superintendent of Police Ravi Shankar Chhavi said a quarrel had started when the constables, allegedly drunk and off-duty, questioned Fareed’s presence there while they were having dinner. Chhavi said one of the constables who shot at Fareed used the pistol provided to him by the district police.
City Kotwali police station SHO R S Yadav said Fareed was shot in the head.
