The National award-winning website on Taj Mahal — http://www.tajmahal.gov.in — is all set to be more attractive and informative for Taj lovers worldwide. Significant details about Taj Mahal like its architecture and history and tourist-oriented information would now be available on this website in nine languages.
So far,the content on the website is currently available in English language only. Now the Tourism Department of Uttar Pradesh has started an exercise to translate the website content in eight more languages including French,German,Spanish,Russian,Korean,Japanese,Chinese and Hindi.
“The idea is to make the website friendly for the people of different countries who want to know about Taj Mahal. It is expected to help foreigners in learning about this heritage site and promote tourism in India,” said an official.
Union Ministry of Tourism has recently honoured the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department with “National Tourism Award 2009-10” for most innovative use of “Information Technology/best website/portal” and for outstanding achievement and contribution to the promotion of tourism in the country.
The state department received this award for its official website on Taj Mahal — http://www.tajmahal.gov.in — which was launched on July 22 last year. In the first eight months, this website has received more than 1.5 lakh visitors.
“The Tourism headquarters in Lucknow has hired a private firm which is working for adding the content on the website in eight other languages. This work will be completed positively by end of April,” said Anoop Srivastava,Assistant Director,Tourism,Agra.
Officials said the website will now have detailed information about the history of Taj Mahal and related local events. “For example, there is very brief information on the website about ‘Shah Jahan Ka Urs’ observed at Taj Mahal. Details about various such local events and their historical significance would be made available on the website in elaborated manner now,” Srivastava said.
Besides architecture, the website also has information about local police and district administration.
“To promote tourism, the website will be updated with information on other monuments and attractive sites in Agra,” said another official.
