UP to propose hike in promotion quota for state police in IPS

The Chief Minister also announced that house rent allowance would be provided to policemen who were not allotted government houses and are living in barracks. He promised to increase the uniform washing allowance of fourth class policemen from Rs 12 per month to Rs 120 per month.

Akhilesh also promised to consider lowering the test of 10 km race in 75 minutes for constables to get promoted to the rank of sub-inspector. He said several policemen had lost their lives during last year’s recruitment and the government was looking into the matter.

He announced that in order to provide more opportunities to the sub-inspectors for promotion to inspector rank,50 per cent selection will be done on the basis of seniority and 50 per cent on the basis of selection examination.

He said the government will take a decision by December 15 this year to declare the post of police inspector as gazetted. The government will also consider transferring Provincial Armed Constabulary jawans of above 50 year’s age to district armed reserve. He said the process of filling all the vacant posts of PPS will be completed by November 15.

Akhilesh,however,cautioned police officials against ignoring the plight of the common people. He said several complaints of public harassment at the police station level were being received. If the number of complaints does not decrease,the government will have to take strict action,he said. Akhilesh added that the government was working on minimising the response time of police.
