‘Conspiracy behind incident… I am being tortured’: UP teacher who got kids to beat Muslim student

The Muzaffarnagar teacher, who on Saturday was booked for making communal comments, also claimed that the Muslim families in her village would give good feedback if asked about her teaching abilities.

A teacher in a private school in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, who instructed children in her classroom to hit a student one by one, referred to his Muslim faith, and talked pejoratively about “Mohammedan children”, has spoken up to clear the air, calling the incident “a conspiracy” and that she was the one being tortured.

“Ask the Muslim families in our village whether I regularly torture kids like this. Then it will become clear,” Tripta Tyagi said. She added, “I was told to discipline the kid. So, while I was teaching the class, I asked him whether he had learnt what he was asked to. I had warned him earlier that I’d beat him if he didn’t.”

Via a video, she further said: “I am being tortured. I don’t wish to live anymore. This is the extent to which my mental state has been hurt.”

The Muzaffarnagar teacher, who on Saturday was booked for making communal comments, also claimed that the Muslim families in her village would give good feedback if asked about her teaching abilities. Officials said the incident took place on Thursday in Khubbapur village under the jurisdiction of Mansurpur police station.

Meanwhile, Opposition parties hit out at the BJP for “politics of hate”. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the teacher was “sowing the poison of discrimination in the minds of innocent children” and “turning a holy place like a school into a market place of hatred”.

In a post, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav demanded that the teacher be sacked immediately, calling her a “blot on teacher society”.
