The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating the murder of a Hindu outfit leader, Kamlesh Tiwari, has arrested one more person, taking the total number of arrest to 11 in the case.
Kamran was arrested from Bareilly for allegedly providing logistic support to the two suspected killers while they were on the run, an SIT officer said.
Kamran was produced before a local court in Lucknow which sent him to judicial custody, said Additional Superintendent of Police ((Lucknow West) Vikas Chandra Tripathi.
Kamran’s role in the murder came to light during the questioning of Naved Raza Siddiqui, a lawyer, who was arrested on October 25, a week after Kamlesh Tiwari was killed, said Tripathi.
According to the SIT, Kamran and Naved were business partners and were jointly running a travel agency in Bareilly. He had allegedly taken the two murder suspects, Ashfaq Hussain Shaikh and Farid alias Moinuddin Khurshid Pathan, to Nepal in Naved’s vehicle and was present with the duo in Nepal as well, Tripathi added.
He further said that during questioning it also came to light that Kamran and Naved had dropped the cellphone of the alleged killers in an Ambala-bound train to mislead the police.
Tiwari, the former president of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, was murdered at his Lucknow home on October 18. According to the post-mortem report, he was stabbed 15 times after being shot.
