Minister of State for Human Resource Development Jitin Prasada today alleged that funds of Saakshar Bharat Abhiyan (SBA),a centrally sponsored scheme for promoting and strengthening adult education, specially of women,is not being entirely utilised by the state.
The money for this scheme is available. But for some reasons, for the past three years,it is not being entirely used in the state, said Prasada, terming it surprising.
I will meet (Basic Education Minister Ram Govind) Chaudharyji and if needed,Ill meet the Chief Minister too and draw his attention towards this so that he takes it up on priority basis, he said. The state and the Centre will need to work together to attain the target of 85 per cent literacy in the state.
Prasada was here to attend a review meeting of SBA where its problems, such as appointments, opening of banks accounts were discussed. Later he also met the Basic Education Minister and raised the issues with him.
Talking to mediapersons after meeting the HRD minister,Basic Education Minister Chaudhary said the SP had come to power only last year and it takes officials time to take stock of things. He said UP will now ensure proper implementation of the scheme.
