Taking note of the CBI’s letter that the local police was trying to influence the investigation of the triple murders at Kunda, the UP government transferred the entire staff, consisting of 107 policemen,at the four police stations under Kunda circle in Pratapgarh district on Wednesday.

The government also asked the DGP Headquarters to send a proposal for replacing the Pratapgarh Additional SP Asha Ram.

Those transferred included the four station officers (SOs),nine sub-inspectors (S-Is),two head constables and 92 constables. The CBI is investigating the murders of Deputy Superintendent of Police Ziaul Haque at Balipur village, pradhan Nanhey Yadav and his brother Suresh Yadav which took place on March 2. It had requested the government to transfer the local policemen.

Sources said that the entire staff of the four police stations had been transferred out of Pratapgarh district because CBI officials had met senior government officers and alleged that the local policemen were in regular contact with the suspects. Besides, the policemen deployed at the CBI camp office at Kunda had been found passing information to these suspects about movement of the investigating team and the persons summoned for questioning, said the sources. The call details of the suspects, who included aides of former minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya, showed calls made and received from the SOs,SIs and the constables of the four police stations.

Allahabad Inspector General Alok Sharma said the policemen of Kunda,Hathigawan,Manikpur and Nawabganj police stations had been transferred to different districts in Allahabad zone, which include Kaushambi,Fatehpur,Banda,Chitrakoot,Hamirpur,Mahoba and Allahabad. The necessary orders had been issued and the policemen will be relieved by tonight.

The SHO and SOs of Kunda,Hathigawan,Manikpur and Nawabganj are Prakash Rai,Nishi Kant Rai,Pankaj Kumar Singh and Arvind Kumar Singh, respectively. CBI Joint Director RS Bhatti had sent a letter to the UP government two days ago, requesting for the transfer of the SOs.
