Adityanath sets target of planting 35 crore saplings

Department and division-wise targets of plantation have been fixed by the Forest Department and and efforts will be made to plant at least 1,000 saplings in every gram panchayat, it is learnt.

The CM also directed to make preparations for planting 5 crore saplings on August 15. To ensure availability of saplings during the drive, he directed to make all arrangements by the Departments of Forest, and Climate Change.
“Prepare hi-tech nurseries. Proper preparation and publicity should be done so that everyone gets high-quality plants easily. Geo-tagging of plantation sites should be done,” the CM said.

The government claimed that the green cover in the state was increasing and the target was to increase it to 15% by from 9%. To meet this target, 175 crore saplings will have to be planted and protected in the next five years, it said.

In a press release, the government said more than 131 crore saplings have been planted with public cooperation in the last 6 years. Over 5.72 crore saplings were planted in 2017–18; 11.77 scrore sin 2018-19; 22.60 crore in 2019-20; 25.87 crore in 2020–21; 30.53 crore in 2021–22, and 35.49 crore in 2022-23.
