The state government has introduced a new post of console operator in UP Police in order to run the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) properly. These operators will handle the computer systems at the police stations across the state.
Additional Director General (ADG) Arun Kumar posted with the UP Police Technical Services told The Indian Express that the government has created 2,800 posts of console operators along with a fresh cadre and regulation. The order for recruitment of the operators has been sent to the Police Recruitment & Promotion Board,he said.
As per the regulation, the console operators will be promoted as sub-inspector (S-I) programmer and inspector programmer, who will be posted with the offices of Range DIGs and Zone IGs and the Technical Services Headquarters, the ADG added.
He also said that there are about 1,500 police stations across the state and arrangement has been made for posting of two operators at each of big police stations and one each at smaller ones. The decision for creation of the new post was taken as the regular constables, who were trained for operating the system, used to be assigned policing jobs too, leading to failure of the purpose.

Since the implementation of CCTNS is supposed to be done across the state within the next two years, the posting of console operators at each of the police stations will ensure proper functioning of the system,he added. Director General of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has sent a circular to other states across the country suggesting to follow the UP governments decision of creating a separate post of console operator in order to run CCTNS properly,Kumar confirmed.
