The Azamgarh-based Rashtriya Ulema Council will be staging a sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Tuesday to protest against the NHRC clean chit to the Delhi Police in the Batla House encounter.
The convener and president of the council,Maulana Amir Rashadi, said five buses carrying people from Azamgarh had left for Delhi on Monday morning to attend the dharna. The group includes the relatives of the youths who are accused in terror cases. The sit-in,he said, has been organised to raise voice against the NHRC report, which has justified the police firing and the killing of two Azamgarh youths at the Batla House on September 19,2008. The NHRC members who conducted the inquiry were probably influenced by the government, he said. Rashadi said they wanted a CBI probe into the encounter, under the monitoring of a Supreme Court judge.
