Two ex-MLAs from Cong,BSP join SP

Two former legislators from the Congress and BSP joined the Samajwadi Party on Saturday.

Lucknow: Two former legislators from the Congress and BSP joined the Samajwadi Party on Saturday. Anil Verma,a three-term MLA from Laharpur in Sitapur had contested the 2012 Assembly election on a Congress ticket and lost. Anil is regarded as close to Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma. Former MLA Uma Shanker Kushwaha of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) too joined the SP on Saturday. He was MLA from Ghazipur seat in 2002 on a BSP ticket. He was also BSP’s zonal coordinator of Varanasi. Minister of State (independent charge) Vijay Kumar Mishra is behind his induction in the party.

LU suspends admission to BA Honours courses

Lucknow: Lucknow University has suspended new admissions in all BA Honours courses — except BA Honours in English — for the new academic session as it is “redrafting” these courses. Till last year,there were BA (Hons) in philosophy,social work,English and psychology. Admission coordinator Dr N K Khare also said that apart from Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA),BBA (International Business) and BBA (Management Sciences),the fee structure for all the courses will remain the same. With the university introducing online registration from this year,he also said the candidates will have to complete the online process in six days.

SP fields ex-IAS officer from Deoria

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party (SP) has fielded Ramendra Tripathi,a former IAS officer,from Deoria parliamentary seat. Tripathi had also served as DM of Lucknow. So far,the SP has declared tickets for 72 Lok Sabha seats.

Four killed in mishap

MEERUT: Four persons were on Saturday killed and as many others,including an elderly couple,got injured after a car lost control and rammed into a tree,30 km from here,on the Mawana Makhumpur road,police said.
