Two die after firecrackers explode during transport at Agra

Two persons died in an explosion in Nai Ki Mandi police station area of Agra on Sunday afternoon. Police said, prima facie, it appeared to be caused by firecrackers that went off accidentally. The deceased have been identified as Ajay Kumar (27) and Sunny Jatav (21), residents of Bodhla locality in Agra. The incident while they were transporting the firecrackers on a two-wheeler at Dhakran crossing.

“Ajay’s family claims that he wanted to open a shop to sell firecrackers. It is possible that he was carrying a lot of firecrackers at the time. It is yet to be ascertained from where they purchased crackers from. A few firecrackers too were recovered from the spot,” said Abdul Qadir, Circle Officer, Kotwali.
A forensics team collected evidence from the spot for examination, he added.

When contacted, Senior Superintendent of Police, Agra, Amit Pathak said, “Prima facie it appears that blast occurred following the explosion of firecrackers that the duo were carrying. Inquiry is still on. We have found several empty wrappers of firecrackers from the spot.”
