Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Jagmohan Yadav on Sunday said that had the state machinery been more vigilant,the incidents of August 17 in which mobs protesting Assam crisis indulged in violence,would have been averted. Violent protests erupted in Lucknow,Kanpur and Allahabad on August 17 as mobs protesting the attacks on the Muslims in Assam and Myanmar,went on a rampage,attacking passers-by and vandalising shops and vehicles. It can not be denied that had the administrative machinery been more vigilant,the unfortunate incidents of August 17,which resulted in widespread damage to property and an atmosphere of tension just before the festival of Eid would have been averted, said Yadav.
A high-level probe has been ordered into the incidents,he added.
19-yr-old boy torched alive by lovers family
Lucknow: A 19-year-old youth,who was caught Sunday early morning from the house of a neighbourhood girl,was beaten up and allegedly set ablaze by the latters family members at Indrapuram Colony in Firozabad district. Govind,who suffered over 90 percent burn injuries,died during treatment at the district hospital in the afternoon. An FIR has been lodged against the girl and her family members including her father on a complaint lodged by Govinds elder brother Sunil.
Police have arrested the girl and is looking for her father.
20-year-old falls in Gomti,feared drowned
Lucknow: A 20-year-old boy is feared to have drowned in Gomti river in Bakshi Ka Talab police station area on Sunday afternoon. According to police,Rahul Maurya,a resident of Takrohi locality,had gone near Manjhi Bridge in the area along with his six friends. As the boys were talking over the bridge,Rahul tried to scare his friends by hanging on the railing. Once when he was playing the trick,his hands slipped off the railing and he fell into the river,said police.A search operation was going on but the body had not been recovered yet.
