Team to probe forced sterilisation charge

The authorities of GSVM Medical College have formed a team to probe the allegations of one Rakesh Pradhan (18),who accused the Non-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) centre staff of Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital of conducting sterilisation on him without his consent on November 9.

The three-member team will be led by Dr Kiran Pandey,Head of Gynaecology Department,and will submit a report within three days. The Gwaltoli police has registered a case under Section 326 of IPC.

An unmarried daily wage labourer,Pradhan was approached on Tuesday by one Sanjay Kumar for a cleaning job in the NSV centre,where an unidentified man approached him. “He said I was working slowly and asked me to take an injection which would increase my strength,” Pradhan said. “After the injection,when I gained consciousness,I had a strange feeling in the lower part of my body and found Rs 900 in my pocket.” In-charge of NSV centre Dr

R K Singh said Pradhan had approached the centre and claimed he was 31 and the father of three children. “We have documents proving his consent,” he said.

A man opting for sterilisation is paid Rs 1,100. Principal GSVM,Anand Swaroop said: “Prima facie,the allegation appears fake,but we are leaving no stone unturned in our endeavours to trace the truth.”
