Three more persons have tested positive for swine flu in Lucknow, taking the total number of cases to 60 in Uttar Pradesh, health department officials said Tuesday.
Including the three new cases, at least 49 people have been tested positive for swine flu in state capital alone, as per the data available with Lucknow’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr S N S Yadav. Throughout the state, 270 people had been screened for the H1N1 virus till Tuesday, out of which 66 have tested positive so far and five have died, including two in Lucknow and one each in Bareilly, Saharanpur and Kanpur.
Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary, Medical Health and Family Welfare Department, said the CMOs have been asked to ensure availability of medicines and also allowed to directly procure. “We have also asked the CMOs to see to it that the medicine is also available in private stocks,” Kumar said.
Simultaneously, the state currently has medicines to deal with 4,000 swine flu cases. “We are in the process of purchasing 75,000 more tablets from Rajasthan, which would further increase our capacity,” Kumar said. He said 1,000 Personal Protection kits, which are used by the hospital staff, are also being purchased which would add to the stock of over 2,000 PP kits, still lying in stock after distribution to the hospitals.
