A day after the four Samajwadi Party MLAs were suspended from the party on charges of engineering a split, they decided to embarrass the leadership by demanding the trifurcation of Uttar Pradesh in the state Assembly on Wednesday.
The SP has always been opposed to the division of the state into Bundelkhand,Poorvanchal and Harit Pradesh.
But during the Zero Hour in the Assembly, the four MLAs Ashok Chandel,Sarvesh Kumar Singh Seepu,Madan Chauhan and Sandeep Agarwal raised the issue through an adjournment notice.
Chandel said Uttar Pradesh was so vast and unmanageable that it was difficult for ministers and the chief secretary to keep a track of all 71 districts of the state.
All major parties, the Congress,BJP and the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party, were in favour of a division of UP. Then why the decision on this issue is being delayed, Chandel said, adding,The Assembly should adopt a resolution for the re-organisation of the state without further delay.
Without naming his own party,Chandel said the common people of the state were in favour of division of the state and whosoever oppose the move will have to face the wrath of the people.
While demanding a debate on the issue,Chandel even pointed his finger at the SP members and the Leader of the Opposition Shivpal Singh Yadav, and said: Such forces will always oppose any move that benefits common people. Those who fail to gauge the sentiments of the people will face the flak during the elections. The motion was, however, rejected by Speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar.
Earlier in the day,the suspended MLAs also sought clarifications from the Speaker about their status in the House following their suspension from the party. Yadav told the Speaker that their suspension was an internal matter of the party and had nothing to do with the Assembly. He said party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had suspended the four MLAs for anti-party activities.
Bundelkhand debate gets deferred
A discussion on a resolution for the statehood of Bundelkhand was deferred in the Assembly on Wednesday after the Congress members who had moved the resolution were absent from the House. The resolution was moved by three Congress members Pradeep Jain,Vinod Chaturvedi and Vivek Kumar Singh, all hail from Bundelkhand region on November 5,2007.
