The second postmortem of BSF constable Suresh Kumar Pandey, who allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in Tripura on Friday, was conducted today after his family members refused to take his body — suspecting foul play.

The autopsy was conducted on the direction of the district administration by a panel of three doctors. Pandey,37,was posted in the 10th Battalion of BSF,along Tripura-Bangladesh border. He reportedly shot himself on Firday and BSF officials passed the information to his family on the same day.

On Sunday afternoon,BSF officials brought the body of Pandey to his native place at Karampur Parwarbhar village in Sultanpur. However, his family members refused to ‘accept’ the body suspecting foul play and staged protest. The Sultanpur police and district administration were informed about it and they rushed to the place.

“Pandey’s relatives suspected that he was shot dead and they were not ready to take the body. Documents which were provided by BSF officials, who brought the body, did not have the report of the postmortem, which was conducted after the death. I spoke to senior BSF officials and informed them about the family’s demand for a second postmortem. When BSF officials told me that they have no objection I ordered for the same by a panel of doctor,” said Sub-Divisional Magistrate,Sadar,Dr SN Singh.

The Sultanpur police said that after the second postmortem, the body was handed over to the family for final rites.

Station Officer,Dhammaur police station,F Khan said, the postmortem report, which was conducted this morning, stated the death occurred due to firearm injury in the stomach. He added that they have to examine the autopsy report to reach a conclusion.
