Over 48 hours after a video clip was aired by a private news channel that brought to fore the case of alleged sexual harassment of a student at the K K Institute of Nursing, both the channel and complainant have disowned the video.
The channels UP bureau chief Anil Sinha said the clip was not the result of any sting operation conducted by them. He said the girl who had accused the institutes former PRO,Ramji Bajpai,of seeking sexual favours on behalf of the director had brought the video clip .
When The Indian Express contacted the complainant over phone, she however, claimed she had not provided any video to the news channel. The video clip shows Bajpai with another girl. I am not aware of the video clip. It was arranged by the channel, she said. She also refused to identify the girl shown in the clip.
However, she stood by her statement in which she had alleged that Bajpai had asked her to please the institutes director Kamal Kant Singh if she wanted to appear in exams despite her poor attendance.
Investigating Officer A P Singh has, meanwhile, asked the news channel to supply the clip. The video will be sent to forensic laboratory for examination, Singh said.
On Sunday,a case of harassment was lodged against institute founder K M Singh, his three sons Krishna Kant Singh,Kunwar Kant Singh, and Kamla Kant Singh and Bajpai on the girls complaint after the channel aired the clip. The charges against them include Section 294 (obscene act),509 (insulting the modesty of a woman),506 (criminal intimidation).
The police had also visited the channels office to record the girls complaint.
The girl also said that she had brought the matter to the notice of K M Singh and his sons Krishna and Kunwar, but to no avail. The police had then arrested Kamla and Krishna, who were later released on bail. I was forced to approach the media when no one at the institute listened to me. Since I joined the institute in 2005,I was being pressurised to meet their demands. When I refused to oblige them, they barred me from appearing in third-year exam, said the complainant a resident of Azamgarh.
The investigating officer said that though he has received a written complaint from the girl, the police is yet to record her statement as she was not available. The girl,on the other hand, maintained that the police could always contact her.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a hunt to trace Bajpai, who has gone missing since the case came to light.
Anita Singh, wife of Kamal Kant Singh, said that the girl had stopped attending the institute after her second year exam in 2007.
She came a few days before the third year examination in September 2008 and requested permission to appear in the exam. But was disallowed because of low attendance, said Anita. She also said that the institute had sacked Bajpai in July 2009 for misconduct.
Krishna kant: no stranger to scandals
Krishna Kant Singhs name has surfaced in many cases. A doctor at CSMMU,he is currently not allowed to enter the university. His services were earlier terminated on charges of misconduct and misrepresenting facts to get promotion. But he got reinstated on court orders and the case is still pending. We told the court that his behaviour is unacceptable as a teacher. But till the time the case is pending,we will pay him salary, said Dr V P Singh,CSMMU Registrar. In January 2004,Kant was arrested in connection with the leakage of the paper of the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination.
