State’s wildlife population sees sharp upturn in 5 years: Uttar Pradesh Government

The Uttar Pradesh government claimed a substantial increase in the state’s wildlife population in the last 5 years, saying the number of tigers in the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve alone more than doubled during this period.

Also, the population of other wildlife animals like the elephant, stork, and vulture has gone up significantly, a government spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said that while the tiger population across the state increased from 118 to 173 in five years, it increased from a mere 25 in 2018 to 65 at present in the Pilibhit reserve. The population of elephants increased from 265 to 352, storks from 13,670 to 17,586.

The government is preparing to highlight the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve as a model for conservation measures and promote it as an eco-tourism destination, it is learnt.
