Mob resorted to violence at two places after the body of a man, said to be a distant relative of Samajwadi Party MLA Vijay Mishra, was found in a gunny bag with bullet wounds to the neck, in Allahabad’s Jhunsi area Thursday.

Family members of Umesh Mishra, a resident of Katka village in Jhunsi, have alleged that the village pradhan and his two brothers were behind the murder, admittedly over a property dispute.

Umesh, according to the police, had left his house Wednesday evening but did not return. His body was found this morning in Sarai Inayat area.

“The body was spotted by passers-by in Bani village at a secluded spot. It was half inside a gunny bag. There appears to be a gunshot wound to the neck. The exact cause of the death would be known after the post-mortem,” said a police officer associated with the case.

Incidentally, the police had taken away the body before Umesh’s family could arrive at the scene. Angry at this, family members and other locals blocked the road from Allahabad to Varanasi near Jhunsi police station. The mob also pelted stones at a roadways bus damaging its window panes.

At the police’s suggestion to disperse, the mob moved towards the Sarai Inayat police station and held a road blockade there.

“They targeted an oil tanker and pelted stones at it. The police reached in time and convinced them to allow it to proceed with the investigation. The situation is under control,” said Superintendent (Trans-Ganga area), Digamber Kushwaha, who was in-charge of the affairs, as SP (Trans-Yamuna) was on other duty.

“The father of the deceased has named Rajit Ram, the village head of Katka, his brother Ramesh Yadav, another person, and two drivers — Manoj and Haider — as accused. Two unidentified persons have also been mentioned in the FIR. The prime allegation is that Umesh Mishra and Ramesh Yadav were involved in a property dispute. It has been alleged that Umesh was called for a meeting by the accused. He left the house saying he would return in some time. Further investigations are on,” said Kushwaha.

Asked whether Umesh was directly related to SP MLA Mishra, Kushwaha said the two families were distantly related with Umesh reportedly being referred to as Mishra’s nephew.
