A Criminal case was registered against a Samajwadi Party MLA for allegedly barging into the office of Reserve Police Lines inspector along with his supporters and entering into a scuffle with the policemen on Tuesday evening.
Rakesh Kumar Singh, the MLA from Charra in Aligarh, and his men also allegedly took away a video camera from a policeman while he was shooting the incident.
Inspector Sabil Haider lodged a complaint with the Civil Lines police station and an FIR on charges of dacoity and causing obstruction in discharge of government duty was lodged against the MLA and over 25 of his unidentified associates.
ADG (Law & Order) Arun Kumar confirmed the incident.
The MLA reportedly had issues with the frequent changes of police gunners deputed for his security. To discuss the issue,he reached the police lines accompanied by his supporters and had a heated exchange with Inspector Haider, said the ADG.
Inspector Haider said Singh has been provided with three police gunners on the order of the government. The gunners,he added, had to be frequently changed,as the MLA allegedly forced them to do household work. The gunners were also made to accompany the MLAs family members and relatives. The gunners, therefore, used to proceed on medical leave or request for change of duty,Haider added.
The MLA is said to have been informed about the complaints by the gunners.
On Tuesday, the MLA reportedly called up the inspector and alleged that the gunners were disrespectful and kept sitting when he would come out of his house with guests.
The inspector assured the MLA that an explanation will be sought from the gunners, but Singh used unparliamentary language on the phone, said Haidar,
Later, the MLA arrived at Haidars Reserve Police Lines office on the campus accompanied by over 25 supporters on four SUVs and motorcycles, and started hurling abuses and issuing threats.
While the MLA and his men were creating ruckus in his office, the store havildar brought the video camera and started recording the act. The MLAs supporters chased away the havildar and snatched the video camera from him.
When inquired about the gunners,Haider said all three gunners deputed with the MLA are staying at his house and have not reported at the police lines so far. The MLA left for Lucknow yesterday without taking the gunners with him,he said.
The MLA could not be contacted despite several calls made to him.
