The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC),in collaboration with the Noida and the Greater Noida Authority, has decided to renew efforts to devise a Special Purpose Vehicle,to improve the public transport in the area.
The SPV will be a body of officials from UPSRTC,Greater Noida and Noida authorities, and will control the financing of the revamp of transport arrangements,as well as the acquisition of new bus fleets.
The idea for the SPV was first floated nearly a year ago but no action was taken. The SPV will attempt to bring in an additional 1000 buses for the area. Officials said negotiations were underway to rope in the Yamuna Expressway Authority under the scheme as well. Once the SPV is in place, the effort will be to connect all residential pockets in Gautam Budh Nagar through the new buses that will be acquired, an official said.
Rama Raman,CEO of the Greater Noida Authority, said,Even though the idea did not come to fruition in the past, the new MD of the the UPSRTC,Alok Kumar, has expressed an interest in revisiting the plan because of the deplorable condition of public transport in Noida and Greater Noida. There will be a meeting with UPSRTC in the near future to work on the details, including sharing of finances by the authorities concerned. After that,we will conduct a study on the requirements and the possible solutions to introduce an effective transport system.
