Sonia will win anyway,so why vote in large numbers,say villagers

During the rail coach factory controversy,the Congress had claimed that the factory would change the face of the area by creating jobs. The BSP had alleged that it would only take away fertile land from the farmers of the area,though there was no sign of any support for this viewpoint.

“We vote for the Congress because there is no other option. But this time,we have decided that only one member per family will vote. They would win anyway,so there is no point in making an effort to ensure their record victory,” said Dinesh Yadav,after exercising his franchise at a polling booth in Aihar,around half a kilometer from the factory site.

Till 2 pm,only 22 per cent polling was registered in this booth.

“Factory is fine but we have other urgent and important needs. We need a canal,proper roads and power supply. We are getting around eight hours of electricity for the last two weeks. Earlier,it was difficult to get even three to four hours of electricity,” added Yadav.

Another villager,Gita Devi,said: “Factory kab tak banegi kise pata. Parivar mein se kisi ko to vote karna tha isliye mein aa gayi.” “If Sonia Gandhi was losing,we would have come out in large numbers to ensure her victory. But that’s not the case,we know she will win,” she added.

Interestingly,only Congress agents can be found at the polling stations in the area. One of them,Shiv Kumar,said: “This is the month of marriages. Many are also busy with harvesting crops. To top it all,it’s extremely hot. We hope the polling percentage improves by the end of the day.”

He added,“Congress jitegi to hai hi,han record banane wali bat shayad na ho paye.”
