Congress President Sonia Gandhi made a surprise visit to Allahabad on Monday.
This is her second surprise visit to Allahabad in past one month though unlike last time when she made an overnight stay at Swaraj Bhawan, this time, Sonia was in Allahabad for few hours only. She restricted herself to closed door meetings related to Kamla Nehru Memorial Trust.
“She arrived here around 11 am and left around 4 pm. During this time, she held meeting with the officials of the trust and also visited the hospital run by the trust,” said Hasib Ahmed, general secretary of district Congress committee, Allahabad.
Sonia had visited Allahabad in the similar manner on February 12. She had met a group of local leaders, who had requested her to launch the programmes to mark centenary year of Indira Gandhi’s birth from Allahabad and had also requested Sonia that Gandhi family member should contest from Allahabad.
However, Ahmed informed that this time she did not meet any party leader and her visit was private as she left for Delhi around 4 pm.
